Loved the taste of Australian culture and visuals, the environmental angle and the aboriginal lore infused in the story. The secondary characters are interesting, but I've had few uncomfortable moments with the main heroine, at times childish and too naive. Still a very good read!
This book finds Kat from America arriving in Australia because her great-aunt Tabby has died. She had several of the family’s witchy treasures & Kat has been sent to collect them. One snag, she has no idea where they could be. She hunts high & low. In her searches she sometimes thinks she sees movement of a large animal down by the river. One night she gets a big fright as the outside furniture is broken. She’s surprised as to why her great-aunt would grow things like Rosemary in a greenhouse & not outside. In her hunting she meets some people who can’t help find the missing objects, but, lead her to believe Tabby was poisoned! Why didn’t she see it coming as she was a Seer. I was so happy when I read that Kat was going to stay & keep the property as her great-aunt had left everything to her. A great read.
An Unforeseen Demise is the first book in the Trouble Down Under series by P. A. Mason.
Kat’s great-aunt Tabby passes away in Australia and Kat leaves Arkansas to go settle Tabby’s affairs and bring back magical family relics. The fact that Tabby was a seer, but didn’t see her own death didn’t sit well with the family.
Kat was meeting her great-aunt’s friends and neighbors for the first time so the story didn’t stall while the reader was being introduced to the characters. The ending was very unexpected! I can’t wait for Kat to be reunited with Gus and to see what happens next.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
